Sam Mueting, President

Sam Mueting is a senior biochemistry major and a psychology minor. He worked in the OB-GYN lab of principle invesigator Dr. Kim Leslie under the supervision of Dr. Yuping Zhang and Pavla Brachova during his first two years at Iowa. He assisted with Pavla's projects involving mutations of p53 in ovarian cancer cell lines. Currently he works in the Pediatrics lab of principle investigator Dr. John Widness under the supervision of Dr. Demet Nalbant and Robert Schmidt. Dr. Widness' lab studies discarded blood samples from babies in the NICU to measure red cell survival, erithropoeitin levels in anemic babies, and red cell volume in extremely low birthweight infants. After college, Sam intends to go to medical school.

Connor Parker, Vice President

Connor Parker is a senior Microbiology major, pursuing a minor in Chemistry. Since the fall of 2012 he has been a research assistant in the nano-chemistry lab of Dr. Sarah Larsen, working with graduate student Paul Mueller. His research in the Larsen lab focuses on the synthesis of core/shell iron-oxide/mesoporous silica nanoparticles, and their applications in drug delivery, environmental remediation, and medical imaging. Connor volunteers in his spare time at UIHC, and plans on attending medical school after graduation.

Josh Colvin, Director of Communications

Josh Colvin is a senior majoring in Human Physiology. He acquired a research lab assistant position for Dr. Michael E. Dailey in the Biology Department this summer. In Dr. Dailey's lab, his research focuses on the microglial response to brain injury following oxygen-gluscose deprivation, attempting to ultimately identify a pharmaceutical agent capable of improving stroke victim recovery. After graduation, he plans on attending dental school.

Emily White, Director of Programs

Emily White is a senior majoring in Health and Human Physiology, pursuing a Global Health Studies minor. Since the summer of her freshman year, she has participated in research at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics in the Department of Internal Medicine. Under principal investigator Dr. Terry Wahls and mentor Dr. Warren G Darling, Emily investigates the effect of a multimodal intervention on the gait of patients with primary and secondary multiple sclerosis. CJ Winters, Director of Social Events

Christopher (CJ) Winters is a senior majoring in biomedical engineering and pursuing a minor in chemistry. He has been involved with research at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics since the winter of his sophomore year. CJ currently works in Dr. Mark Anderson and Dr. Isabella Grumbach's labs under researcher Dr. Omar Jaffer studying the effects of Calmodulin dependant protein Kinase II in pulmonary tissues. In in vivo models, inhibition of Calmodulin Kinase has shown to decrease asthma reaction, and further research may lead to a Calmodulin Kinase inhibitory treatment of asthma. In his spare time, CJ enjoys water skiing, hunting, spending time outdoors, and watching Hawkeye sports.
